Supporting Student Wellbeing Through Values Education: A Resource Package is designed to support schools in integrating values in curricular and extracurricular contexts to develop student responsibility, social skills, resilience and wellbeing.

A copy of Supporting Student Wellbeing Through Values Education: A Resource Package was delivered to Principals at all Australian schools in early May 2009. Additional copies may also be downloaded by schools from this website. Due to copyright obligations the resource has been published as PDF files on this website through a special restricted access facility from The Learning Federation.

To access Supporting Student Wellbeing Through Values Education read the following instructions. It is strongly suggested that schools download the package to their school intranet so that the materials only have to be downloaded once.

Supporting Student Wellbeing Through Values Education

Supporting Student Wellbeing Through Values Education: A Resource Package forms part of the Values for Australian Schooling series of resources to support schools in implementing the National Framework for Values Education in Australian Schools. These resources aim to:

  • assist schools to provide values in a planned, explicit and systematic way
  • be inclusive of the whole school community and school life
  • focus on developing student responsibility in local, national and global contexts
  • support quality teaching congruent with curriculum outcomes
  • establish safe and supportive teaching and learning environments
  • build student resilience and social skills through personal development and better understanding of self and others.

The separate primary and secondary books each consist of two components. Understanding Values is a set of six dilemma-based learning sequences which can be linked to key learning areas. The dilemmas require students to explicitly examine the values that underpin people’s actions and the choices they make about complex issues.

The second component, Values in Action, supports values learning through activities and projects outside the formal curriculum. The six modules provide scaffolds with which to build authentic and practical experiences for students to live and practise the values the school is fostering.

The book provides teachers’ notes supported by photocopiable student resource sheets.
